"The Disappearing Sky Below"
By Daniel Champion
The waters lay still, reflecting unbelievably
perfectly
I double take the sight of the lake not believing its
tranquility
Dormant through the night, still resting in mornings
beckoning
The waters glow with the sky's vibrancy, loosing no
details
I stand at the water's edge and peer down and up, both
into the sky
It makes no difference
Slight waves cut the water and shatter the natural
mirror
From a loon a mile away, drifting, diving down into
the sky
Only to disappear
I scoop some of this liquid metal into my hands
As if hoping to see my reflection in my hand
The shattering shock waves saturate the lake
Removing the sky below me
